Ongoing federal and state “half-mast” orders have left some local flags in less-than-respectful positions and conditions.

This sad display—pictured on April 1, 2020 at the Hampton Inn on Hillsdale Drive in Charlottesville—has appeared as shown for much of the past week.

  1. I am happy to share with you that this defected flag issue was also notice by a member of our staff and corrected immediately. Unfortunately, the top latch that held the flag in an upright position was broken during the week, thus causing it to flip upside down. On behalf of the hotel and all of its team members, I assure you that we would never knowingly allow the American Flag to be shown in any disrespectful way.

  2. I would like to add, that there is a symbolism behind the flag being upside down.
For those that don’t know it symbolizes a Country in distress.
