On May 31, Albemarle County Public Schools (ACPS) held a Zoom forum called Community Information Session on Transgender/Gender-Expansive Policy & Supports.

During the Q & A session, a meeting participant suggested that ACPS transgender policies are “in conflict” with State policies, as revised by Governor Youngkin.

Ayanna Mitchell (she/her), ACPS Director of Equity Education, responded with a non-answer: “well, our current policy, again, is approved by our school board, and our school board is the one who approves our policies.”

Mitchell continued by deferring to the Division attorney, who would review ACPS policy and then “provide consultation” on any necessary changes and adaptations.

Ultimately, Ms. Mitchell concluded (in edubabble) that ACPS has not made changes to their current policies, regardless of new directives at the State level.
