Albemarle County Board of Supervisors $5k "retreat" The Schilling Show
Albemarle taxpayers will be billed “around $5000,” according to Albemarle County’s COO to pay for the Monday, August 17, 2026 Board of Supervisors Retreat held at Charlottesville’s Virginia Guesthouse hotel.

Board Chairman Ned Gallaway and the five other elected Supervisors and over a dozen Staff enjoyed breakfast (and later lunch) on Albemarle taxpayers’ tab.

The public (3 to 6 of us, by my count) got to watch the 7 hour retreat by looking at the backs of Chairman Gallaway and Vice-Chair Fred Missel and the other four Supervisors who apparently didn’t have the time or enough money to feed themselves (and many of the County Staff) breakfast at home before 8:04 a.m.

By the way, Chairman Gallaway, by himself and not by a vote at an open, public Board meeting, decided to hold Albemarle County’s “around $5000” taxpayer-paid retreat in the City of Charlottesville.

Wondering now if Chairman Gallaway, the other five Supervisors, and County Executive Jeff Richardson and his Staff should make a hotel-equivalent-breakfast tax-deductible donation to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank. Or at least reimburse County taxpayers for their breakfasts.
