There has been a lot of talk recently about reproductive rights. Perhaps it would be good to under-stand what that term means.
The term “reproduction” itself means simply to reproduce. As far as I know, there is no law pro-hibiting or limiting the number of children a woman can have. All women can have as many children as they want or are capable of having. So they already have “reproductive freedom.”
However, some political candidates include limiting reproduction by abortion as one of those rights. Abortion is the act of killing babies in the womb. However, that’s not reproduction; that’s murder—the opposite of “reproduction.”
Of course, some women find themselves pregnant and have no plan or capacity to take care of a baby and raise it to adulthood. There is a way out. Giving the baby up for adoption will bless a couple who longs for a baby but apparently can’t have one.
We experienced that blessing. My wife and I were two of those newlyweds who decided to space our children two years apart. The problem was, after our first child, the second one didn’t come as planned. After five years of no results, we began to think we might never have a second child. So we applied for adoption—and received a one-week-old baby girl about two months later. What a blessing she was. Her different personality perked up our family, and she eventually graduated from U. Va. with credentials to be a registered nurse. Though she now is retired from active nursing, she brought blessings and healings to many—because her birth mother chose life.
Many people who consider abortion don’t know what abortion really is. Abortion is dismembering the body of a baby-in-development in the womb. It’s pulled out of the womb piece by piece. Sometimes it is pulled out whole and allowed to die on the table—or even stabbed to ensure the baby dies. The current proposal to the Virginia constitution would even punish any person helping such a baby to live.
Abortionists tell their prospects, “That embryo is just a glob of protoplasm.” The Guardian even shows a picture of what appears to be cotton fluff as representing the embryo:
Actually, that’s the sac that the embryo is in. The embryo is a tiny human shape. If they are nothing but blobs of protoplasm or cotton fluff, why is there such a market for baby parts from aborted babies? If you want to see what aborted fetuses really look like, try this link:
Believe me, they’re not pretty.
One woman seven-weeks pregnant decided to take the do-it-yourself chemical abortion route. She took the dosage, and expelled the embryo. Wanting to see what it looked like, she picked up the sac, opened it, and inside was a very tiny human shape that had two legs, two arms and a head. And in the head were two developing eyes—all at just seven weeks. She’s so sorry she did it.
A medical consensus is that life begins at conception. Let’s hold all life sacred. There are respectable ways to handle it.
A young woman asked a pro-life spokesperson what her choices were when it comes having an unwanted pregnancy. His answer went something like this (paraphrased):
“Five years from now, you can remember with remorse your act of destroying an innocent infant in your womb. Or you can listen to a little five-year-old child snuggle up to you and say, ‘Mommy.’”
And I add a third option: Give the child up for adoption to people who want to be loving parents, but have not been able to have a child naturally.
