Charlottesville’s Fashion Square Mall is going to court sale.

A legal notice in the July 7, 2021 Daily Progress indicates:

NOTICE OF SUBSTITUTE TRUSTEES’ SALE OF REAL AND PERSONAL PROPERTY
LOCATED AT
1600 RIO ROAD EAST, CHARLOTTESVILLE, VIRGINIA

SALE TO BE HELD AT THE ALBEMARLE COUNTY CIRCUIT COURT
JULY 16, 2021, AT 1:00 PM

Opened in 1980 and once a crown jewel of Simon Properties’ indoor mall portfolio, Fashion Square has fallen on hard times recently. Restrictive government COVID lockdowns and changing consumer habits appear to have been the death knell for Fashion Square. In addition, the beleaguered mall’s part owner, Washington Prime Group Inc, recently filed for bankruptcy.

Albemarle County tax records indicate that the 18-acre parcel, including improvements, is valued at $16,125,900.

A $100,000 deposit by certified or cashier’s check is required of the winning bidder.
