Dear Mountain View Families and Staff:

This morning we learned of a serious allegation of an assault involving students.  I want to assure you that upon hearing of this allegation, school administration contacted the police department and both school and division administrators acted immediately to initiate an investigation and to ensure the safety of those involved.
I recognize that even hearing about such a possible incident is concerning to all of us.   This matter is currently under investigation by local law enforcement and our school division’s Title IX Office.

Anyone with information about this situation or who has a concern is urged to reach out to me.

This message is not easy to send, but it is important for us to keep you as informed as possible.

Thank you for your support of our students and Mountain View Elementary School.

Cyndi Wells, Principal

The reference to Title IX indicates that the alleged assault may have been sexual in nature.

This incident is just the latest in a series of assaults and fights in Albemarle County government schools.
